“One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” He said to him, “’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” ‑ Matthew 22:34‑40
Taking our cue from Jesus, we’ve taken as our mission and challenge that this church will be a place where all can grow in love of God and love of our neighbors. Confirmation is a particularly intentional season of life in which live this out.
Confirmation is the journey through which our young people begin to make their faith their own, a time of exploration and decision-making on their faith journey, reflecting on the earlier partnership established for many of them at the time of their baptism. In that covenant between God, the church family and parents, a promise was made “to grow with these children in the Christian faith,” until such time when they were old enough to make a conscious decision of discipleship. This is that time!
At FCC of Dundee, Confirmation typically occurs during a student’s 8th grade year. Confirmation involves weekly meetings as a group, field trips beyond the local church setting, an overnight off-site retreat and participation in special worship celebrations. The process begins in late September and culminates in a Confirmation service in early May.
